I’m honestly shocked that this hotel markets itself as a 4-star establishment. The property is completely outdated and poorly maintained. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this was not the standard being advertised.

There were cockroaches in the room, which is completely unacceptable at any level, let alone for a hotel claiming four-star status. On our first day, the bedding had visible blood stains and clearly had not been properly cleaned. That alone made the stay extremely uncomfortable.

The housekeeping staff were also unfriendly and unhelpful, which only added to the disappointment. Basic cleanliness and professionalism should be a given.

I would not stay here again. You honestly couldn’t pay me to return. Very disappointing experience.

The Capetonian is comfort tucked in right in the middle of Cape Town in a very secure location. Its the perfect hideout for travellers looking for something affordable and convenient. I stayed in a suite that offered me a view of Table Mountain which was pleasantly offered to me by special request. The staff are generally competent and friendly. They do their very best to attend to your needs, athough there is room for improvement.

I am very disappointed with my recent experience at the Capetonian Hotel during my wife’s birthday celebration.

We were a large group of approximately 27 people, and unfortunately the service and overall experience did not meet expectations. The waiter repeatedly hovered around our table pressuring us to settle the bill, which made the evening uncomfortable and took away from what was meant to be a special celebration. The payment process was handled poorly and felt rushed and intrusive.

Additionally, several guests from our party, including myself, experienced stomach issues after the event, which we suspect may have been linked to the mutton/lamb curry served. This was extremely concerning.

The seating arrangement was also disappointing. Despite this being a birthday celebration with a large group, we were not offered a more private or intimate space, which would have been more appropriate for the occasion.

Lastly, the desserts were not appealing and did not reflect the standard one would expect considering the amount spent by such a large group.

Overall, the experience fell far below expectations for what should have been a memorable celebration. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and improves both service standards and food quality going forward.

I had stayed at the hotel previously, but this stay was not good. There was a mix-up with the rooms from our initial booking, but thankfully, Mr. Khan sorted out the problem; his professionalism was welcoming throughout our stay.
On arrival in our room, I had to get the housekeeping to come and deep clean the room as it was not obviously done properly from the last guests that were there; there were still empty packets and broken glass under the bed.
My big disappointment was the quality of the food that was served; there was a sausage dish that was served every morning, wherein you couldn't cut through the sausage, and it been cold made it taste fatty when bitten into. I took it on all the days that I had breakfast, thinking it would taste better, but sadly, it was the same. The scones were also hard and dry 🙁
For some reason, the warmers are either switched off, and the food will be lukewarm or cold. I had to request the staff to please switch them on. I'm not sure if that's a cost-saving exercise, but that's on. People are paying and should receive what they are paying for, because The Capetonian's food is not cheap at all. We had dinner there a few times, and again the food was cold. There was a mutton curry served, which had no meat, just massive bones, so again I'm not sure if its cost saving of buying boney meat with the least amount of actual meat, but again, not on.
So, moving forward, I hope they improve their culinary skills. People are drawn there because being Hallal and the variety, but they should not see that as a plus and rip the public off.

I would like to give thanks and special mention to 2 staff at the restaurant, Intombi (I think she is one of the managers), and a very warm, friendly, and efficient Koena, one of the waitresses in the restaurant.

Awh man!! Great place. Stayed over for 2 nights on a business trip. Very centrally located. Safe area and safe parking for your car. Rooms are clean and well maintained. Friendly staff and helpful reception. Very nice restaurant serving breakfast and dinner buffets. Also halaal (2026/01)

I had issues with non refundable rooms as implied by management when we booked online a family room kept kicking us off saying the number is not allowed for a family room then we had to pay for 2 hotel rooms on arrival we were told our children will stay on a different floor which was just impossible. We were told we wont be refunded for the other hotel room so we settled for the family the other room for a couple that was onna different floor we lost the money that we had paid. I really found it wrong atleast a certain percentage could be refunded to guests.
One night we planned to have dinner at their restaurant because we had an alacarte menu in the room on arrival we were told no we cant have dinner its only buffet and its 300 per person i looked at my little kids that was just waste as they will just eat almost nothing.
We had breakfast buffet every morning it was great the view was amazing too

Upon arrival, we were surprised with an upgrade to an even better room than the one we had booked. Without a doubt, I will return for my next vacation! The hotel is simply wonderful, super comfortable, and close to everything. I wholeheartedly recommend it! 💛

I had the pleasure of staying in the Capetonian Hotel and met such wonderful and friendly staff. The rooms were soo neat and everything was wonderful. They even have a Salaah room and istinja taps so it was perfect for my sister and I alhumdullilah. The breakfast was fantastic, everyday a new variety. Keep it up and well done and thank you for making my stay soo great.

Visited restaurant for a 3 hour supper buffet. Food simple and delicious, just what one would expect at a family gathering. So, no high-end dishes just tastey food. Service not too bad, but slow and inattentive. Venue ok, not fancy, but good enough. Supper session started promptly. Queues for food not long... Ample food for everyone, got refreshed when dishes were close to empty.

Stayed 3 nights at The Capetonian during my Cape Town visit. The main reason I chose this hotel was because the restaurant offers halal food, and it was also recommended by a friend who stayed here before.

Overall, it was a good experience. The room was clean, and housekeeping cleaned it every day, which I appreciated. Staff were generally polite, friendly, and halal-friendly.

Food was okay and reasonably good. Breakfast was excellent and worth the price (around R140), with a good selection and drinks included. However, I found dinner quite expensive (around R360 per person) and disappointing that even water had to be purchased separately—no drinks included.

One incident at dinner spoiled the experience a bit: when I arrived, I offered to pay upfront and was told to pay after eating. But while I was still eating, a staff member came to the table and asked me to pay immediately. I found that quite rude and uncomfortable, especially since I had already said I would pay. It would have been better to wait until I finished my meal.

If they improve how they handle billing during meals, this would easily be a stronger stay. Apart from that, everything else was good.

Wow! Best hotel experience ever! From booking to meeting staff, arrived almost midnight, the security guard was super courteous, th reception staff are exemplary, the room is WOWs! 👌 the housekeeping on the ball, room service super. Halaal all the way, spacious prayer facilities. Food is tops! Service is grand and last but NOT least humble, experienced well mannered and hands On manager. Best Regards.

We stayed on the 6th floor. The room was very outdated and would really benefit from replacing the carpet and curtains, along with some bathroom updates (bring your own slippers).

The gym is small but adequate. We chose to eat outside the hotel.

That said, all of the staff were very competent, and the housekeeping was exceptional—our room was always fresh whenever we asked. Kudos to the housekeeping team.

For the basic price, it was acceptable, but next time we would choose a different hotel.

We stayed in room 907 for 1 night. It was pleasantly renovated, however it's summer and we needed to use the aircon. It's very noisy and the curtail blocked the air from flowing. We couldn't keep the windows open due to the strong winds. I would recommend that the old aircon be replaced or serviced.

Room: standard room absolutely convenient and neat. Daily housekeeping , complimentary bottles of water & tea/coffee.

Excellent service, check in and check out, any enquiries front desk is always helpful.

Location is a stone throw away from city centre and waterfront also the main highways and main roads. 5min from table mountain, on the bus route as well

Breakfast is a daily dream you wake up to. buffet style, everything is fresh and halaal. Waiters are helpful.

I enjoyed my stay here. We were a group of 7 ladies, stayed for 8 nights and we all loved it here. Friendly staff, elaborate buffet, spacious and clean rooms/hallways, everything about this hotel is 💯 awesome. My highlight was the Table Mountain view from my room. Stunning!

From beginning to end the service I received from this hotel is 10/10. I asked for a change of room as I was not happy with the view and without hesitation my room was changed and bags were moved in under half an hour. All the staff at reception, at the restaurant even the porters were absolutely amazing and the best part all food halaal n no alcohol on the premises......I can tell ypu this was the best experience I have had in all my hotel stays over South Africa. And oh the rooms are very well kept and really clean...Thank you to the entire team of the Capetonian for making our stay one to remember....

The rooms are stunning after the revamp. Breakfast is superb. Reception staff could be a bit more knowledgeable with regards to TV channels. Asked them which channel the Springbok rugby was on. I was told it is on TV. Dining room staff were very friendly.

The buffet was excellent for every meal during our three-night stay. All food served is strictly Halaal, and there was a wide variety of dishes to suit all tastes. While the rooms are comfortable, they could benefit from an upgrade to achieve a more modern aesthetic. The views of Table Mountain are stunning. I will definitely be returning for another stay and highly recommend this establishment.

I went the Capetonian Friday evening. Compliments to the chefs of the place. Compliments to the staff who were phenomenal last night. Their friendliness and helpfulness was unique and exquisite. I had an amazing time last night at the Capetonian Hotel. The food was amazing and the variety was magnificent. Thank you to all at the Capetonian Hotel.

Great food, great location, friendly staff, well maintained rooms.

However, I would recommend the housekeeping staff to be more meticulous, especially when cleaning the floors of the rooms so that it is more conducive for muslim guests to perform solat ( floors were a bit dusty and some dust/hairballs in the corners from previous guests), and also when replenishing the toiletries and cookies.

The front counter staff and restaurant staff were excellent!

Definitely enjoyed my stay at the Capetonian.

Celebrated my son's 21st birthday and the experience was great. Service was top notch, food was awesome! Staff was very friendly and helpful and I really commend a particular lady that was super helpful in a very busy setting, Maleeka Abdillah; you are amazing! Thank you for your attentiveness while dining there, both you and the chef!!

I stayed at The Capetonian in October 2025 and I was really impressed with the staff, decor details all around the hotel, the dinning area with a big breakfast variety and of course the location, it's about 15mins walk to V&A Waterfront and close to most attractions.
Fellow travellers - I highly recommend this hotel.
